About me
I am a queer, cis, currently non-disabled woman, and settler having arrived on these lands as a refugee from Iran. My work is largely shaped by generational roots in activism, community organizing, lived experience with poverty and working-class struggles, and intergenerational trauma. I am dually trained and licensed as a therapist and mental health nurse with a professional and personal practice rooted in politicized healing and social justice ethics. I hold a Master’s of Counselling degree from City University of Seattle and am registered with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
In addition to my Independent Practice, I have been working in mental health and substance use services for Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) since 2008. I am also Associate Faculty in City University of Seattle’s Master of Counselling program. I have a background in leadership, education, facilitation and teaching workshops/seminars within VCH and for other health authorities, front-line agencies, and community programs. My practice also includes clinical consultation and supervision with expertise in supporting therapists, healthcare, and social support workers working in mental health and substance use, housing, and other service areas.
Alongside these roles, I am also co-founder of Healing in Colour (www.healingincolour.com).
Approach
My practice includes an integration of Feminist-Narrative Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Mindfulness-based Self-compassion, with an emphasis placed on supporting the healing of communities most impacted by structures of power and oppression (particularly BIPoC/people of the global majority and LGBTQ2SIA+ communities). These approaches are grounded in intersectional feminist, abolitionist, anti-oppressive, decolonizing, justice-seeking, queer and critical theory frameworks.
I also draw from additional therapeutic modalities, such as (but not limited to):
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Emotion Focused Therapy
Parts Work/Internal Family Systems Therapy
Hakomi Method
Body-mind Psychotherapy
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
Motivational Interviewing
Our work together will be collaborative while I strive to create a warm, safe, and affirming experience first and foremost. You will be invited to safely explore any issues that may be getting in the way of personal and collective healing and to cultivate your innate (and often ancestral) wisdom of the body and mind.
